Alternative Health/ Nature of Intuition

About the show

In the first half, registered pharmacist Ben Fuchs shared alternative health concepts, and offered tips on supplements and healthy changes to one's diet and lifestyle. Reacting to a recent news story about a gluten-free diet not necessarily being healthy, he said that might be true for a person with a perfectly functioning digestive tract, but most people have issues of one type or another in that area. Gluten, he continued, is part of a plant's defense system and can be problematic for people to digest. One of the biggest things a person can do to improve their health, he added, is to focus on their digestive system, such as through fasting, caloric restriction, or taking probiotic supplements.

For people with asthma, he suggested deep breathing techniques, and supplements such as magnesium, Vitamin C, and alpha lipoic acid. For a caller who complained of brain fog and tinnitus, he indicated that they were both signs of blood toxicity from the digestive system and recommended doing a SueroViv Cleanse. Rosacea, or redness of the skin, he cited, is not due to a skin problem but is also linked to digestion issues. To alleviate, stay away from problem foods, and make sure you're getting some fermented foods in your diet, he advised.

Researcher, reporter and director/producer Bill Bennett has made over 30 films from various genres. In the latter half, he discussed what he considers to be his most important work-- unpacking the nature of intuition and how the human body provides signals to help us make better choices so that we can fulfill our true purpose. In his own case, a moment of intuition turned out to be lifesaving, when he heard a voice emphatically telling him to slow down when he was about to speed up through a New Orleans intersection. Suddenly, out of nowhere a massive truck ran a red light and came hurtling through the intersection and "I have no doubt," he declared, "I would have been killed if that voice hadn't intervened."

Bennett has classified intuition into three different types-- survival, which is part of an instinctual, or primitive defense built into the human body, cognitive, in which personal knowledge, conscious or subconscious, is accessed, and mystical, which seems to come from an outside source. It's this last type that he thinks was activated during the instance where he heard a voice telling him to slow down. Bennett believes that the third eye or pineal gland is a portal to mystical intuition, and disseminates the information into the body, such as to the gut, accounting for what people call gut feelings or instinct.
