Alternative Cancer Approaches/ Skeptical Investigations

About the show

Health freedom advocate and cancer researcher Ty Bollinger discussed his latest health research and shared information on alternative health treatments and natural ways to heal the body. The cancer rate has hit epidemic proportions, he reported, affecting 1 in 2 men, and 1 in 3 women at some point in their lives. We're getting exposed to so many things today that are possible or known carcinogens, he pointed out, adding that lifestyle choices and these toxins are responsible for 80% of cancers. Almost everyone has cancerous cells in their bodies, he explained, but a healthy immune system can fight them off, so the disease represents a failure in that system. Treatments like radiation and chemotherapy, he continued, attack the tumors while weakening the patient, and don't really get at the source of the problem.

There are a number of suppressed natural cancer treatments, one involving the use of viruses which is being done at a clinic in Riga, Latvia. "These are healthy viruses that are found in the gut of healthy children," said Bollinger, and "they've found that they are selectively toxic against cancer-- they don't hurt normal cells." The treatment has been approved by the Latvian equivalent of the FDA. He also cited a product called Curaderm, a topical skin cream based on eggplant that has been helpful for certain skin cancers.

In the latter half, paranormal investigator and feature columnist for Skeptical Inquirer, Joe Nickell talked about his latest work on such subjects as ghosts, Bigfoot, miracles, and the Shroud of Turin. In looking into accounts about Joseph of Cupertino, a 17th-century Christian mystic who could reportedly levitate, Nickell determined he likely made great bounds like a basketball player rather than actually floated in the air. Regarding the Fatima case of Marian apparitions in 1917, he suggested that one of the children that received the contacts, Lucia, was known to be fantasy-prone. In the so-called Miracle of the Sun, he theorizes she may have encouraged the crowd to stare at the sun, which could have created the sense of the sun's movement from a kind of retinal burn.

Speaking about the Shroud of Turin, he concluded it was made using an art rubbing technique and has been carbon dated to sometime from 1260 to 1390 AD. Further, the "bloodstains" are neatly painted on and don't reflect what actually blood spatter would look like, he added. Many ghost sightings are due to "waking dreams" or sleep paralysis-type episodes, he declared, while witnesses to Bigfoot-type creatures are just seeing bears walking upright.
