Toxic Effects

About the show

On Saturday night, Ian Punnett welcomed the "Toxic Reverend," Tom Krohmer, who discussed his personal journey to track the effects of toxic chemicals on human health. According to Krohmer, most Americans have between 160 to 200 toxins in their systems, which, even at low doses, can build up and cause numerous chronic illnesses. Harmful chemicals are found in everything from anti-bacterial soaps and sunscreens to the chlorinated water that pours out of our showers, he explained. Simple hair sample tests can provide a good overview of what toxic substances a person's body may contain, though more extensive tests need to be performed by a toxicologist, Krohmer noted.

These environmental toxins can impair our immune systems and allow subclinical mycoplasma infections to proliferate, Krohmer continued. This type of infection likely plays a role in Gulf War illness, posttraumatic stress disorder, fibromyalgia, depression, heart conditions, and other physical and mental illnesses, he suggested. Krohmer shared his own painful struggle with a form of reactive arthritis, known as Reiter's Syndrome, that he believes was caused by a mycoplasma infection. He also spoke briefly about the lack of real protection offered by the FDA, EPA and other government agencies, the Safe Chemicals Act, and Prof. Garth Nicolson's Project Day Lily.

NFL Update

In the first half hour, sports conspiracist Brian Tuohy commented on the controversial non-touchdown call made last week that went against the Detroit Lions, giving the Chicago Bears a narrow victory. Tuohy believes the NFL's ruling in this game provides evidence in support of his theory that sports leagues fix their games to increase profit and television ratings. Tuohy also revealed how much taxpayers still owe on the old Giants Stadium that was demolished to make way for the New Meadowlands Stadium -- about $300 million.
