Medium and healer Rosemary Altea discussed her work communicating with spirits on the other side. As a child, she viewed her special visions as a curse-- it wasn't till she was in her 30's that she came to accept her ability to speak with the dead as a gift. She often works with her spirit guide, Grey Eagle, who told her he'd lived a life as an Apache.

While such abilities come to her naturally, people can develop more awareness, Altea said. She suggested an exercise for those who have lost a loved one: Sit in a quiet room for 10 minutes a day and calmly declared - 'this is my time to be with you,' and then pay careful attention to what you hear.
Altea recounted a vivid case in Florida where she communicated with the spirit of a deceased serial killer who was haunting the home of a woman he'd earlier planned to kill. As she moved about in the home, she felt a sensation akin to being punched in the stomach.
