Documenting Ghosts

About the show

Journalist and ghost investigator Jeff Belanger shared his work compiling ghost stories as well as his discussions with the late George Lutz of the Amityville house. There is a preponderance of evidence for ghosts, said Belanger, who listed three types of cases: non-intelligent imprints left in an environment, interactive entities that show signs of intelligence, and thought projections that are interpreted as ghost experiences. One theory is that places aren't haunted, but people are-- and they could be seeing ghosts or doppelgangers of themselves.

Belanger described his intense visit to the Catacombs of Paris, where thirty generations of human bones were moved from city cemeteries into a tunnel, 30 meters underground. While there, he repeatedly saw a darting shadow though no one else was there. While many people capture anomalous images by randomly taking pictures at haunted sites, he noted that some individuals such as Jim DeCaro engage in "spirit photography," a more deliberate attempt to communicate w/apparitions.

Video and film documentation also offers intriguing evidence and Belanger said he was able to view Ed Warren's private footage of the ghost known as the 'White Lady of Easton,' which he found quite convincing. In his lengthy conversations with George Lutz, held after the most recent movie came out, he learned that Lutz's Amityville experiences were more subtle than what is portrayed in the films, but that during that time Kathy Lutz appeared to age 10-15 years even though they only lived in the haunted home for 28 days.
