Scientist Sir Charles Shults III returned to the show to talk about such topics as fossils on Mars, space elevator technology, and energy alternatives. He advocated the setting up of Earth orbiting stations which could collect energy from the sun and then beam it down to antenna arrays on the ground. A program such as this could be set up within seven years, he estimated. The technology for constructing a carbon fiber space elevator is here, said Shults. Super strong lightweight "nanotubes" could be held aloft in orbit and once the first one was launched, more of them could be easily assembled from space.
"I don't believe intelligent life arose on Mars," Shults declared, though he does think that primitive sea life once existed there. He didn't rule out the possibility that intelligent life may have visited Mars at some point. Currently, there appears to be some form of precipitation on the Red Planet, that is possibly sprayed out from a geyser, he suggested. Shults has concluded that Mars is important to us for its valuable chemicals and minerals and also as a bio laboratory.
JC in the Spotlight
After "Edna Pringle" wrote to Art Bell requesting that J.C. be given air time, Art brought the notorious repeat caller on during the first hour, and allowed him to banter with other listeners. While Art questioned whether J.C. was for real, JC spouted numerous assertions which included-- the heating up of hell is the cause of global warming, cats are demonic creatures, and that he'd "taken holy sticks of dynamite" to blow up the new Harry Potter book. J.C. shared that he is the process of setting up a new "compound" in Idaho and that his email address is boilingpitsofsewage@yahoo.com.
