Overdosed America

In the first hour, Dr. John Abramson, a clinical instructor at the Harvard Medical School and author of Overdosed America, called the state of America's health care system a "national emergency." According to Abramson, 40% of the most quoted medical studies do not stand up when the studies are repeated. Abramson pointed out that most clinical studies are funded by drug companies, and are five times more likely to show a given drug works. Abramson also revealed that Americans are paying twice as much for health care than the citizens of 21 other industrialized nations, yet living less time in good health. At least 30% of health care received by Americans is not necessary and is often harmful, he explained, resulting in a staggering $600 billion in wasted health care costs.
