Lucky Stories & Ouija Boards

About the show

During Open Lines George provided a "Lucky Line" for people who wanted to share their most lucky story. Gary from Alabama recounted the time he was driving his truck to Louisville, Kentucky and missed the exit he had planned to take. Lucky for him, he found out later that a bridge along the missed route had collapsed, killing a truck driver and his wife who been following behind him.

Another caller reported recently winning over $3,000 in Las Vegas. He said he had heard George talk about the financial power of the number eight, and wondered if his winning streak had been caused by an "8" he had unknowingly carried with him into the casino. After searching his truck, he found the hat he wore the night of his big win -- a cap with the number 88 written across it. Yet another caller said since he put the number eight in his wallet, he has won over $20,000 in jackpots.

Several callers phoned in with stories about Ouija boards. A caller from Missouri recalled hearing moaning and crying while using a Ouija board. She claims to have had a dream afterward in which curtains wrapped tightly around her arm. The caller said she discovered a red ring around her arm the next morning. Throughout the next year, the red ring would reappear and something bad would happen, the caller said.

When Chimps Attack

In the first hour, Shelly Lynn Williams PhD, a primate researcher, discussed the recent chimpanzee attack in California, in which a man was left critically injured. She thinks the two chimps involved in the attack became jealous when the man and his wife brought a birthday cake to their former pet, a chimp named Moe. Citing their high intelligence, Williams suggested the chimps knew how to get out of their locked enclosure and had kept that secret from their human handlers.

Williams, who has been attacked herself and had more than 48 reconstructive surgeries, said chimps are six to seven times stronger than humans and can weigh up to 240 pounds (in captivity). "They are not meant to be pets," she warned. Williams also talked about the dolphins that stranded themselves in the Florida Keys on Wednesday.
