Theology & A Course in Miracles / Power of Hypnosis

About the show

In the first half of our live Christmas night show, Richard Smoley, a writer specializing in esoterica, discussed Christian theology and teachings of unconditional love and forgiveness, as presented in the book, A Course in Miracles. Theology (the study of the nature of God) has been replaced by economics for most people, he lamented, so that rather than focusing on God, one's relationship to money takes precedence. A Course in Miracles, he explained, was a text channeled by psychologist Helen Shucman that was said to be dictated by Jesus. Its goal was to correct many of the theological mistakes inserted into Christianity over the last two thousand years. He considers the book to be a profound document and the only clear and consistent presentation of Christian theology, whether or not Jesus actually transmitted it.

To attain freedom, the Course demands that we give up something precious to us – our grievances. It is difficult for people to let go of their resentments, though, because "horrifyingly enough, we identify with them," Smoley observed, and this keeps us separated from God. Miracles, he added, could be considered a sidestepping of ordinary reality, when the higher spiritual order operates in the lower realm or physical world. He also touched on such topics as the prophecy of Nostradamus, and the legend and location of Atlantis.

In the third hour, Wayne Walker, a trainer in hypnosis & Neuro-linguistic programming, talked about the power of the subconscious mind and how individuals can harness it to improve their lives. Hypnosis is a human condition involving focused attention, with reduced peripheral awareness, and increased suggestibility. Individuals have to allow themselves to enter the hypnotic state, he noted, but the more they do it, the deeper they can go, and the more it can be used as a tool. The potential of hypnosis, he continued, is largely untapped in our society, and "if everybody learned how to do it, we wouldn't have a lot of the problems that we have. People would not be their own worst enemy," and the malaise of anxiety and depression could be greatly lifted. Walker also spoke about using post-hypnotic suggestions, and past life regressions during sessions with his clients.

Throughout the show, various guests from the C2C roster shared Christmas greetings. The last hour featured Open Lines, and George closed the program with a recording of famed broadcaster Lee Allan's reading of A Letter From Michael.
