Privacy Issues & Open Lines

About the show

Filling in for George, Ian Punnett welcomed author and consultant Andrew Colarik, who commented on various privacy-related issues during the first two hours of Friday's show.

Colarik spoke about the domestic satellite surveillance program, which he said was on hold until Homeland Security and Congress finalize a legal framework for it.

Colarik also discussed RFID chips in drivers' licenses. According to a recent story, this technology will broadcast the identity of motorists to any chip-reading sensor within a range of thirty feet. Colarik expressed concern that devices which openly broadcast a person's data could lead to identity theft and data usage problems.

The last half of the program featured Open Lines, with several callers voicing their opinions on privacy and rights issues.
