James A. Secord is a professor in the Department of History and Philosophy of Science at the University of Cambridge and a fellow at Christ's College. He is the author of "Victorian Sensation: The Extraordinary Publication, Reception, and Secret Authorship of Vestiges of the Natural History of Creation," published by the University of Chicago Press. His research interests are the social history of science since 1750; life and earth sciences; and the history of science communication.
