Unsettling 'Venom' Slime Caught on Film

By Tim Binnall

A bizarre piece of footage featuring a slimy black creature undulating on a rock has captured the imagination of the internet thanks to its unsettling resemblance to the sinister symbiote from the film Venom. The mesmerizing video seemingly first appeared online yesterday afternoon by way of a Twitter user located in the Eastern Caribbean island nation of Saint Lucia. It is uncertain if the video was filmed there or somewhere else as the person who posted the footage simply asked if anyone know what the creature was and, unfortunately, did not provide any information on the strange scene.

Be that as it may, the video quickly caught fire online, amassing millions of views and being shared by countless people on social media. In the footage, a dark mass that looks somewhat like cooling tar sits on a large rock and, upon closer inspection, can be seen wriggling around in a manner indicating that it is a living creature. Perhaps reading the minds of horrified people watching the video, a person off camera promptly stabs at the blob with a rather menacing looking knife and scrapes away a the oddity presumably in an attempt to figure out what it is.

Easily the most frequent suggestion put forward by people online is the tongue-in-cheek theory that the weird creature is the parasitic alien at the center of the comic book and movie Venom. More serious-minded observers have indicated that the blob is likely a mass of worms. While that may not make the animal any less nightmarish, it is preferable to the fictional creature that takes over the human body and turns its host into a supervillain.
