A photograph of an alien planet in the process of forming has been captured for the very first time by astronomers. Produced by the European Southern Observatory's Very Large Telescope in Chile, the picture shows a faint blob embedded in a disc of gas and dust around the star HD 100546. Scientists say this object (brightest part of right image) is a newly forming baby gas giant, similar to Jupiter. More at Space.com.
