An anomaly hunter searching for strange and unusual objects photographed by Google Earth spotted a puzzling oddity in Antarctica that some suspect could be a mermaid. The strange find was made by YouTube user 'Florida Maquis,' who uploaded a video showcasing his discovery over the weekend. In the presentation, he zooms in on an area of the frozen tundra where a dark, curved shape can be seen.
Noting that the weird object is located inland, the anomaly hunter argues that this means that it "cannot be explained by wind, ice, rock, and snow." What's particularly intriguing about the oddity is that it bears an uncanny resemblance to some kind of sea creature, complete with a dolphin-like tail and a flipper. A measurement of the object indicates that it is 65-feet long, which one would think precludes the possibility of it being a mermaid, but since such entities have never actually been seen, such a scenario cannot entirely be ruled out.
Observers online have offered a variety of theories for what the anomaly could have been including the aforementioned mermaid, a dragon, and more prosaic suggestions such as a whale or a giant dolphin. More skeptical viewers are understandably less than impressed with the discovery and say that the 'creature' is likely just a trick of light and shadow.
